Welcome and congratulations to new MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel and to MnDOT Deputy Commissioner Khani Sahebjam (MGEC Associate)! MGEC is pleased to have experienced and licensed leadership at the helm and looks forward to working with them. This legislative session MGEC has supported House File 3090 seeking that the MnDOT Commissioner and/or Deputy Commissioner be the MnDOT Chief Engineer and be licensed as an engineer, while still allowing for unlicensed individuals to serve in other Deputy Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner positions.

MGEC Compensation Study – One provision of the 2007-2009 MGEC Contract was an agreement to jointly do a study of total compensation packages of the classifications represented by MGEC. This work began in February and continues with frequent meetings. Total compensation will include more than wages but also values related to insurances, vacation, sick leave, holiday, and days of work, bonus/achievement awards, deferred compensation and more. Comparisons will be sought private and public sector employers that are most closely associated with State of Minnesota employees represented by MGEC.
