MGEC Annual Meeting – was held Monday, Sept. 14 with 180 members attending. Nominations were opened (through 9/30/09) for the following positions:
Vice President: 1 year as VP, 1 year as President, 1 year as Past President
Treasurer: meets with MGEC staff a couple hours every other week (paid time)
Director: 5 positions open
Golden Slide Rule Award Winner - This award recognizes significant and substantial achievements in the fields of engineering or land surveying, based on technical achievement, societal involvement, partnerships, papers submitted, and/or scholastic achievement. Congratulations to the 2009 recipient: Michael Pretel, Principal Engineer, MnDOT – Northstar Corridor Commuter Rail Project.

Connie Minnetor Memorial Scholarship – In 2002, the Board announced the initiation of a new member-only scholarship, the Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarship, named for the late Connie Minetor, MGEC’s first President from MPCA (1997-98). Up to $1,000 is offered to one MGEC member seeking a degree or advanced degree in engineering or land surveying, or seeking additional work-related training. Congratulations to the 2009 recipient: Brett Ballavance, Senior Engineer, MPCA.

Family member scholarship - Congratulations to the 2009 recipient: Justin Scott, son of Michael Scott, Senior Engineer, MnDOT – Central Office. Justin is a senior (5th year) at the University of Minnesota – Duluth, double-majoring in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

PE Exam Review Instructor Awards - Length of service awards were presented to: Blake Nelson, MnDOT (17 years); Bill Priebe, MPCA (15 years); Randy Thorson, MPCA (12 years); Rich Lamb, MnDOT (12 years); and Petra DeWall, MnDOT (10 years).
PE Exam Review Course - The class is held twice a year – a spring session and a fall session – made possible by MGEC members sharing their knowledge with others who are preparing to take the P.E. exam. Thank you to all of the instructors and to the agencies they work in for providing work time for their instruction!

We are in need of teachers in the following fields:
Construction: This is a new topic which is part transportation and part structures. We are looking for a main teacher and a back-up
Structures: We are working on getting people from Bridge Design to do this. We are looking for a main teacher and a back-up.
Traffic/Transportation: We are looking for back-up teachers for this topic.
