Engineers Leadership Institute

Registrations are now being accepted for MSPE’s 2008-2009 Engineers Leadership Institute. Paid registrations received by August 1 will receive $100 off for the first attendee and $50 off for each additional attendee from the same company! Download the announcement for this program at

http://www.mnspe.org/professional_dev/continuing_edu.shtml.

All are welcome – it is not mandatory that participants be MSPE members or licensed PEs. Please feel free to forward this announcement to others you think may be interested. This is an especially great opportunity for younger engineers to get some leadership training that pertains specifically to engineering and can be a great addition to a resumé.

The Engineers Leadership Institute is an eight session program that features a curriculum focusing on the skills required of effective leaders. Presenters with many different backgrounds will provide personal insights, factual information and useful tools on a variety of subjects, including – for the first time this year – leadership issues associated with the I-35W bridge collapse and the severe flooding in southern Minnesota in 2007. This is the only program in Minnesota that focuses on leadership from an engineering perspective.

The institute meets one day per month beginning in September 2008. All sessions except the final one will meet in the Twin Cities metropolitan area (the final session will be held at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester). Participants are encouraged to attend all eight sessions, but are invited to substitute a colleague if the registered participant is unable to attend a particular session.

Session topics will be:

> Ice Breaker/Understanding Your Communication Style (September)

> Effective Communication (October)

> Project Management and Teamwork (November)

> Contracts, Negotiations and Liability (December)

> Ethics and Leadership (January)

> Minnesota Government and Community Involvement (February)

> Effective Business Leadership (March)

> Outstanding Customer Service (April)

Attendees will receive 50-55 PDHs for the full program. Registrations on or before August 1 are $1400 for the first person and $700 for each additional person from the same company. After August 1, registration fees will be $1500 for the first and $750 for each additional person. Even at the full rate, the cost amounts to less than $30 per PDH!

The registration deadline is September 12. Registration is limited to 25 people and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
