No matter what kind of work you do, all you have to do to apply for promotions is to submit your resume to the state employment web site at www.careers.state.mn.us. This site helps you create a resume using “Resume Builder,” and to search and apply for job vacancies throughout the state.
Here are some important things to remember:

· Twelve-month availability – allows your resume to be active for 12 months
· Job search – allows you to view job postings
· Job search agent – allows you to receive e-mails when a vacancy matches your search criteria
Resume Builder allows you to easily build a resume from scratch--or copy and paste an existing resume. To ensure your resume information stays current, you should update it as often as your work experience changes. You can update your resume at any time. You only need to submit one resume to apply for any job that you find interesting. Before applying, you’ll want to assess whether your qualifications meet the minimum qualifications described in the announcement.
Twelve (12) Month Availability allows you to apply for vacancies for up to one year. At the time you submit your resume, you’ll receive an acknowledgement e-mail and postcard that says your resume will be active for twelve months or until the time you’re hired, whichever comes first. You won’t receive another reminder from the system so you may want to set up your own reminder. At the end of the 12 months, all you need to do is to log onto the employment web site and click the “submit” key and your resume will become active for another year.
The Job Search allows you to view job postings by location, salary, department, employment condition, bargaining unit, career area, key words or shift. Once you submit your resume, you can apply directly for a specific vacancy or vacancies and see the status of those vacancies by visiting the “Apply for Jobs” section of the web site.
Job Search Agent allows jobs to come to you. Once you’ve submitted your resume online, you can create what’s called a Job Search Agent with your unique search criteria. You’ll receive an e-mail whenever a job announcement is posted that matches your career interests. This eliminates the need for you to check the state employment web site every day for new career opportunities.
Currently, only 1,458 Mn/DOT employees have their resumes in the State’s job applicant database. All Mn/DOT employees are encouraged to submit their resume. We’ll continue to offer assistance, so be ready when opportunity knocks.
