We have heard from a number of MGEC members who have received letters from MnDOT about “overpayments” made when employees worked authorized overtime in pay periods containing a holiday. These letters demand that employees respond by the end of the month and are ominous in tone. Neither MnDOT nor MMB have reached out to MGEC on this issue. As we have advised in prior communications, we recommend that employees do not consent to repayment at this time.
Issues such as overtime, or any other interpretation of the labor agreement, fall firmly under the jurisdiction of the contract between the state and MGEC. The situation is currently under active legal review and we will have more information as it becomes publicly available.
