Current Contract: House File 800, and Senate File 1431 need passage to approve the 2021 – 2023 MGEC Contract The house passed the contract on March 2nd. It also has to be approved by the Senate. In the Senate a final vote is needed. While we expect no issues with passage, we always encourage MGEC members to reach out to their senators before the end of the month to ask for passage of our labor agreements. Legislative Pension Committee/PEPC Update
Minnesota’s legislature has a bipartisan committee of senators and representatives known as the Legislative Committee on Pensions and Retirement. It makes the fundamental decisions about our retirement security, administered on behalf executive branch employees by the Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS) as well as all of the other state-wide pension systems for public employees. Contact Your Legislators
The 2021-2023 MGEC Contract is in effect. However, the legislature needs to approve of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for it to remain in effect once the current legislature adjourns. That deadline is currently scheduled for May 22. HF800 has been drafted to ratify the state employee contracts. It passed the House State Government Policy and Finance committee earlier this month. It still needs to make it through several steps of the legislative process. MGEC will work with the authors, MMB and others in the coming weeks. MGEC members have a strong presence in almost all lines of business the State of Minnesota runs.
