The multi-union collation known as the Public Employee Pension Committee (PEPC) met on Friday, September 15th to hear updates and develop an action plan for the upcoming legislative session. The Legislation Commission on Pensions and Retirement (LCPR), which the PEPC informs and is comprised of a bipartisan group of legislators to decide pension issues, has also conducted a meeting in Duluth on October 30th to hear directly from active pension participants as well as retirees. Bargaining Update
Your Bargaining Team continued contract negotiations with the State on October 4. Our team remains frustrated that we’ve now met 5 times with the State including twice with a mediator and we still don’t have an agreement that’s suitable for our membership. The State continues to want to eliminate proposals rather than focus on the interests of both sides to make meaningful change. After meeting for 11 hours on this day until 8:00 pm, the team left very frustrated. Golf Tournament, Dinner & Annual Meeting
MGEC encourages every opportunity to get members together, have fun and discuss business or concerns. The golf event, a highlight for many members, produced a winning score of -10 below par and several other low scores as well. It was followed by social time for members who more than filled the meeting room. The evening wrapped up with the MGEC Annual Meeting which included member participation on-line. MGEC joined several other unions at a fall Employee Day. This event had been on hold the past several years due to COVID and a shortage of funds. Now the transportation department finds itself with a lot more funds for more projects. The new challenge, finding people to do the work.
