MGEC member-Hannah Pritchard serving her community
When one of MGEC’s members, Hannah Pritchard, saw the tremendous need in her North Minneapolis neighborhood after the looting and fires a few weeks ago, she decided to act. Her neighborhood was already struggling, even before any of the looting/fires, but the problem became even more pronounced after. Almost all of the food stores in the area are boarded up. Some may never reopen. Hannah went to help with clean up efforts and saw volunteers helping with drop off donations carrying items in their arms and having to make multiple trips. Conference Call with State Labor Unions Governor Walz held a conference phone call with the state employee unions today. His message included some of the following: Thanks to state employees; he knows state leadership is asking a lot of employees. The State created COVID leave so employees wouldn't have to take vacation or sick leave. Being part of a union is sacred to him. Our labor contracts are a top priority to them. MGEC Members Approve the Tentative Agreement
Members voted to approve the tentative agreement for a new contract for 2019-2021. At the time of the vote, 995 MGEC members were eligible to vote. Of the 725 members who voted, 88.5% (642) voted to approve the contract. Next steps: MMB will submit the contract to the legislature for approval before it will take effect. Most likely it will be added as a floor amendment to HF3732 and SF4006. No date has been set for the legislature to vote on these bills, due to the continually evolving situation with COVID-19.
