Welcome to 2020

9 January 2020

Dear all Members and Represented Non-Members, MGEC accomplished a lot in 2019 and I am hopeful for a successful 2020. I would like to echo the sentiment that now Past President Derrick recently shared in his end of year message. The success of 2019 could not have been done without the membership and the hard work from the MGEC staff, board members, and other contributors. As we look forward, my hope is that 2020 can be as successful as we focus on the following priorities: Finalizing the 2020-2021 contract The next date of mediation with the state is scheduled for January 22, ... 2019-2021 Contract Negotiation Update

23 December 2019

Thursday, December 19th, marked the 8th time MGEC met with representatives from the State’s bargaining team in 2019, and the first day of mediation. There is some small progress to report. The MGEC negotiation team and the State signed a Memorandum of Understanding; agreeing to implement the new insurance coverage effective January 1, 2020 and to also honor several, previously agreed upon contract language changes (Tentative Agreements) in the new contract when it is implemented. While MGEC and the State agree on most remaining contract issues, there continues to be a significant difference ... Read More >>

About Minnesota’s New Wage Theft Law

15 November 2019

MGEC has received several inquiries about the notices from Human Resources related to your employer (Agency) providing you with specific information about your employment. Please note that the notice and request for signature to acknowledge receipt is completely independent of current MGEC/Employer issues or considerations. If you work for MnDOT, this notice came from the MN_DOT Note Mailer, DocuSign, and/or Connie Eystad (MnDOT HR). The new law requires that employers provide notice to employees when they are initially hired and when there are changes to their wages or compensation ... Read More >>

MGEC Negotiation Update

7 October 2019

Five days of negotiations were originally scheduled between the MGEC team and the State team at the MnDOT Training Center in Shoreview, MN. We met on each of those days and have now scheduled two additional days for meetings on October 31 and November 1. The negotiation process has been productive and proceeding well overall. On the State side, Paula Graff took over for Austin Neese as the lead negotiator for the State. Derrick Dasenbrock, MGEC President, continues serving as MGEC lead.  Each side has now made several complete proposal “passes” to the other side. There have been several ... Read More >>
