Bargaining Update

18 March 2025

The results of the MGEC membership survey are in!  We are now in the process of collating and analyzing the results to determine what our membership needs.  To those FULL MGEC members who completed the survey, THANK YOU.  Your voice is critical as we move forward.

MGEC has notified both the State of Minnesota and the Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS) of our intent to begin negotiations.  This is the first step in the bargaining process and lets the BMS know that bargaining is on the horizon, which can be helpful if we decide that we need to bring in a mediator to reach a settlement.

It is important to remember that while we will push as hard as we can to get to the bargaining table as soon as we can, the history with the State has been that they are not willing to get into any substantive discussions until they are closer to settlements with the two unions that comprise the vast majority of state employees: MAPE and AFSCME.  While we disagree with their approach, it has been their practice for many years.  We will pass along details as soon as we know more about the dates and pace of this round of negotiations.

You did not receive a survey if you are not a member of MGEC.  You can change that by joining – don’t leave your economic future up to others!  Sign up here.
