Activity/Organization updates

Welcome to 2020

9 January 2020

Dear all Members and Represented Non-Members, MGEC accomplished a lot in 2019 and I am hopeful for a successful 2020. I would like to echo the sentiment that now Past President Derrick recently shared in his end of year message. The success of 2019 could not have been done without the membership and the hard work from the MGEC staff, board members, and other contributors. As we look forward, my hope is that 2020 can be as successful as we focus on the following priorities: Finalizing the 2020-2021 contract The next date of mediation with the state is scheduled for January 22, ... MGEC Member Update: Uniform Application of Contract Language

7 October 2019

If you have attended one of MGEC’s recent member meetings, you may recall one of the items included in the presentation was “MGEC helps ensure our members receive uniform application of contract language.” MGEC represents members in multiple State agencies; not every office or District interprets contract language in the same way. While MGEC can’t usually influence which discretionary/optional requirements are applied by the Agencies or Districts, such as whether to require meal receipts or not, we do try to make sure our members are treated fairly and reasonably and respond to members’ ... Annual MGEC Elections

21 August 2019

Our Annual Minnesota Government Engineering Council (MGEC) Elections are coming up soon. We encourage you to consider running for an office and holding a leadership position in your labor union. MGEC Directors and Officers are critical to the sound governance and operations of your labor union. Volunteering in these positions provides members the opportunity to gain valuable experience in managing projects and tasks; creating content for the website; collaborating, problem solving, and interacting with management, legislators, MGEC staff and other union members- both inside and outside of ... Six Hundred Eighty-Four

19 August 2019

I’d like to take this opportunity to extend a personal “thank you” to our 684 members who completed the MGEC Member Survey. There were many thoughtful responses provided in the comments section; our Negotiating Committee is already reviewing the information and incorporating the results into the framework for our meetings with the State in early September. A participation rate of over 67% is outstanding. No surprise to us, the most frequent comments were with respect to wages. There were several consistent themes within those comments. Some of the strongest sentiments were related to fair ... Read More >>
