Insurance Bargaining Update

28 June 2023

Insurance Bargaining concluded on Thursday, June 1.  A tentative agreement was reached between the union coalition and the State of Minnesota to provide healthcare for all state employees for the next two years.  Unlike previous bargaining cycles where the employer came to the bargaining table with take-away, regressive proposals and we fought to maintain coverage, this year features discussions that actively improve the healthcare experience.  Some of the notable features of this year’s agreement include: 6% and 2.7% premium increases for the respective years of the agreement; $0 ... SEGIP Bargaining Update

25 April 2023

As a state employee your health insurance is the product of collective bargaining just as the MGEC contract is.  But the process in which it’s bargained is quite a bit different. Because the State Employee Group Insurance Plan (SEGIP) is a benefit that is the same for all state employees, it is bargained in a coalition with all of the state’s unions.  That coalition has recently started meeting to determine what the proposals will be for the first round of bargaining with the state, which begins on April 25th. MGEC put out the call for ideas from our members a few weeks back.  We heard ... Read More >>

Bargaining Update

29 March 2023

Current Contract: House File 800, and Senate File 1431 need passage to approve the 2021 – 2023 MGEC Contract The house passed the contract on March 2nd. It also has to be approved by the Senate. In the Senate a final vote is needed. While we expect no issues with passage, we always encourage MGEC members to reach out to their senators before the end of the month to ask for passage of our labor agreements. Insurance Bargaining between the unions and the state will begin this month. Currently a list of union proposals is being drafted. MGEC members with ideas for proposals should contact ... MGEC Contract Update

7 October 2022

Late Thursday afternoon, MGEC received information on several important dates relating to the renegotiation of our labor agreement. While we have all been anxious about finally getting the official word about when the terms of bargaining will be implemented, there are no significant changes between what we were told in bargaining and what we heard today. The following dates are what the state communicated to us: The across the board wage increases of 2.5% retroactive to each July for 2021 and 2022 will be reflected in the pay period ending October 25th which will be paid November ... MGEC Contract

11 August 2022

Recently, MGEC and MMB have reached a tentative agreement on a contract for the period of July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023. Prior to reaching that tentative agreement, we were scheduled for Interest Arbitration September 7-9. Recently, MMB asked MGEC to return to mediation to discuss range reassignments for classifications that require a professional license (engineers and surveyors). They stated that recent data, difficulty hiring, and retirements suggests to them they need to move those classes to the next higher pay range. MGEC encourages them to make those changes they’ve determined merit ... Read More >>
