President’s Message

28 January 2025

I'm honored to welcome you to 2025 and thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President.  I'm continuing what's become a recent tradition for MGEC of serving my 2nd term as MGEC President.  Our most recent Past Presidents (Dan Sullivan in 2023 and Fernando Nacionales in 2024) also recently served their second terms as President.  Thank you to both of them for their leadership and dedication to serving the MGEC membership! 2025 will definitely be a busy year for MGEC.  We hope to begin negotiating an updated contract with MMB later this year.  We will provide updates as ... Position Descriptions: The Key to Agency Planning

28 January 2025

We’ve discussed the importance of maintaining a complete and accurate position description (PD), particularly for those employees who are approaching a reallocation as they transition up the job ladder.  But PDs do a lot more than lay a groundwork for reallocations; they provide important information to the employer as they organize and prepare emergency planning. From time to time, someone will raise a concern to their immediate supervisor but the concern is not resolved.  This can be extremely frustrating, particularly when it feels like it’s a one-way, dead-end conversation ... Thank you & Best Wishe

17 December 2024

The MGEC Executive Board changes about half its members each year. That allows all members greater opportunity for participation. This year we are saying thanks to the following board members who have provided several years of service. Carroll Aasen (Director 2023-2024), Dan Sullivan (Vice President 2022, President 2023, Past President 2024). Thank you for your years of service, recruitment of others and willingness to always put forward your ideas!   ... Read More >>

Bargaining Preparation

17 December 2024

2025 is almost here!  As we get ready to open a new calendar, we are also preparing to negotiate the next collective bargaining agreement with the State of Minnesota; the current agreement expires June 30, 2025.  You’ll hear more information about the bargaining process and will be invited to participate in a survey in the coming months.  Our power at the bargaining table is directly correlated with your participation in MGEC.  Being a member of MGEC is critical!  If you are already a member, THANK YOU!  If not, it’s never too late to become one.  Don’t let others decide your future – join and ...
