Scholarship & Awards Open March 1st

24 February 2025

MGEC is opening the opportunity to apply for scholarships (Family Member Scholarships and Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarship). Applications will be accepted starting March 1, 2025, and received by MGEC no later than by 5:00 pm on June 30th, 2025. Winners will be decided by the MGEC Membership Committee in July with announcement in August. MGEC, at their discretion, may award up to $4,000 each calendar year for scholarships, distributed amongst any number of qualified applicants for the Family Member and Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarships. MN Infrastructure Alliance Strategizes for the 2025 Legislative Session

The Minnesota Infrastructure Alliance, formerly known as MN 2050, has rebranded and is planning communication and advocacy strategies for the upcoming legislative session.  Composed of a coalition of professional organizations working to support safe and sustainable infrastructure across the state.  You might be familiar with its “Infrastructure Report Card’, released every other year based on a survey of infrastructure professionals from around the state. MnDOT Meet and Confer

12 November 2024

On Wednesday, November 5th, a “meet and confer” meeting was held between senior MnDOT staff and MGEC.  The goal of a meet and confer is to identify issues that affect members within a specific agency that don’t rise to the level of a solution that needs to come from the bargaining table.   This meeting’s agenda included clarification on the Student Loan Reimbursement program, and discussions on concern over changes to teleworking affecting some members, and our mileage issue over reimbursements for meals while traveling. Time Entry for Overnight Workers

12 November 2024

Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB)– the state agency that manages operations for its various agencies – announced that they are altering how they expect time to be entered for employees who have workdays that stretch across calendar days.  Specifically, this is almost always employees who work overnight.  While most MGEC members work “regular” workdays, we do have members who work overnight and we want to make sure they are aware of the change.
