MGEC Scholarships & Awards Deadline Fast Approaching!

20 May 2025

The deadline for MGEC Scholarship and Award nominations is Friday, June 30, 2023, by 5:00 pm.

One of the benefits of MGEC membership is an opportunity to receive either a scholarship for yourself, a family member or an award. Please take a moment to consider if either is of interest to you.

Scholarships

If you plan on submitting a Scholarship application, be sure to submit both the application and the transcript. We appreciate you sharing the story behind your educational goals. Incomplete applications may not be considered for the scholarship.

Family Member Scholarship – Two $1000 scholarships are available to family members (children, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, siblings, and legal wards) of MGEC members (Full and Supporting Members). These scholarships are intended for those who are pursuing a degree in an engineering or land surveying field. Eligible applicants include undergraduates who will be entering their junior or senior year or those pursuing a post-graduate degree. If awarded, the student would receive the scholarship money as a reimbursement after submitting a receipt as proof of tuition payment.

Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarship – In 2002, MGEC’s board announced the initiation of the member-only scholarship program. The Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarship for MGEC Members is named for the late Connie Minetor, MGEC’s first female President (1997/98) and first President from MPCA. It was established to provide help to members seeking to attain a degree or advanced degree in engineering or land surveying or seeking additional work-related training. Up to $2,000 may be awarded to one MGEC Full or Supporting Member. Current Board Members are not eligible to apply. Eligible members may apply for the scholarship more than once. If awarded, you would receive the scholarship as a reimbursement after providing proof of payment for the training or course(s).

Awards

If you know of any of your coworkers (must be a Full Member of MGEC) who have outstanding technical skills; share expertise with their peers; have outstanding effort in civic or other community service or outstanding service to the MGEC community: please consider nominating them for one of the two MGEC awards.  Individuals can be nominated by their coworkers, supervisors or themselves, but all nominees MUST be Full Members. Click here to complete an application to nominate your coworker or yourself.

Golden Slide Rule Award – Technical achievement award, societal involvement, partnerships, papers submitted or scholastic achievement. Tell us about the nominee’s expertise and its impact on co-workers or others in the public.

Distinguished Citizenship Scholastic – Community service in local, state, or national politics, charitable or civic activities, volunteer work, military service. Tell us the story and impact of the activities.
