Traveling for Work

9 November 2022

Employees often ask about traveling for work events or conferences. Sometimes the event or conference starts Monday morning and the employee travels during their off time on the weekend. It is common for the employee and their supervisor to balance the weekend travel time in place of other work time. When the employee travels on their weekend, that often saves the employer money (hotel, meals) and allows them to avoid the less productive time when employees travel on weekdays during the usual work hours. In those situations when the employer won’t work with the employee to balance personal ... Read More >>

9 November 2022

Employees denied the Juneteenth Holiday of 2022 shall be allowed an additional floating holiday. This was effective October 4, 2022, but the employer is just getting around to having agency payroll staff enter the additional floating holiday in the payroll system to make it available for employees to use. All eligible employees, who were in employment on June 20, 2022, and covered under this Agreement, shall be eligible for one (1) additional floating holiday which must be ... Read More >>

Backpay

9 November 2022

Employees should have received backpay for periods from 7/1/21 - 6/30/22 and 7/1/22 through the pay period ending 10-25-22. In some cases, employees believe they have found errors in the amount of backpay. In those instances, the employee should contact their payroll staff to address the error. Often, it’s resolved at that level. If there continues to be a discrepancy, contact MGEC for a second opinion or for support in addressing the issue further. ... Read More >>

PE Review Class changes

18 February 2021

MGEC will no longer be providing a PE exam review course. MGEC started offering the PE exam review class in the early 1990s; this long standing tradition was successful for almost 30 years! This change is the result of upcoming retirements for some instructors and other instructors balancing many responsibilities (work, children, etc.). The exams have been transitioning to an online basis and it’s expected that all will be online within the next couple of years. Instead, starting in November 2020, MGEC will provide reimbursement for Full Members enrolled in a review course for their ... Read More >>
